What Is An RG You Say?
A Regional Gathering is an event sponsored by a Mensa local group. The RG is open to all Mensans and their guests. It usually spans a weekend, Friday to Sunday.
Some are large and elaborate, some are small and informal, but all give you the opportunity to meet people, see new places, hear amazing speakers, play games, and otherwise stimulate your uncommon mind.
For more information on what to expect at an RG,

The Hotel
We are excited to return to the Red Lion at the Quay in Vancouver, WA, across the river from Portland, OR. This will be the sixth time our RG has been held at this popular location overlooking the Columbia River. All of the RG activities take place on the ground floor, as close to each other as possible, so you can easily switch between the Game Room, Hospitality, speakers and other events.
Registration
The 2010 registration form can be found via a link in the RG menu at left. The registration rates are: $70 by 2/28; $80 by 4/15; $90 after 4/15; and $40 under age 18, if accompanied by a paying adult.
Send payment and registration form to:

Speakers and Programs
We will again offer three tracks of programming. More details about what's in store can be found on the Programs page as this information becomes available.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Susan Greenfield will be giving the keynote talk at the RG Sunday brunch on May 2. This is possible because of the generous support of Terry Bristol and the Institute for Science, Engineering and Public Policy who is bringing the baroness to Portland for the Linus Pauling Memorial Lecture Series. Susan Greenfield is often described as the foremost female scientist in Britain, but she is one of the best of any gender, anywhere, at getting complicated ideas across. She is a successful broadcaster, a writer of bestselling science books, a working peer, a professor of pharmacology at Oxford and a recipient of the Légion d'Honneur.
Details about Speakers and Programs can be found from a link in the RG menu at left, and will be updated as they develop.
Scholarship Auctions
There will again be both a silent and a live auction, with many wonderful donated items to bid on including hundreds of excellent books. Proceeds from the auctions benefit the Oregon Mensa scholarship fund. The silent auction will take place during the day on Saturday; the live auction, which is always a fun event for bidders and spectators alike, follows dinner on Saturday night.
If you would like to make a donation to the auctions or the book sale, please contact Auction Chair Diana Maul.
Friday Tour
Planning for a Friday Tour is underway! Details will be announced as soon as they're available.
Game Room
No gathering would be complete without the Game Room! Join in a round of Quiddler, puzzle over a jigsaw puzzle, or amuse yourself watching the drama unfold as Scrabble dictionaries are consulted. Bring your favorite game, or play one of ours, including several past MindGames entries.
Several tournaments will be held in the game room. Possible games include Spades, Hearts, Pinochle, Boggle, Backgammon, Bunco, Quiddler, and Trivia. Check the Games page for rules and other information.
Teen Room
We're unable to offer a Teen Room this year.
Hospitality
The Hospitality room is the heart of any Mensa gathering, where attendees can eat, drink, chat and relax with each other. Our primary Hospitality space will again be the large Quayside/Portside room overlooking the river. Conveniently located on the ground floor of the hotel, adjacent to our Games Room and just a few yards from our speaker rooms, Quayside/Portside will again be filled with tables and chairs for your eating and socializing pleasure.
From Quayside/Portside it's a short walk across the River Deck to the sliding glass doors of the ground-floor suite where snacks and beverages will be available throughout the RG (except during the wee-est hours and the two hotel-catered meals, when the serving suite will be closed). More substantial offerings will be available there at mealtimes. This time we also plan to offer some simple snacks and beverages in Quayside/Portside (e.g., sodas, chips, nuts, candy) so attendees can quickly obtain a drink and/or snack between programs without needing to visit the serving suite.
Hospitality will open by 4PM on Friday and dinner will be served from 5-7PM. Attendees can enjoy a hot meal (fried chicken, green salad and baked potatoes with a variety of toppings) while seeing which old friends are present and starting to make new friends before attending the evening's programmed events. There's no additional charge for any of the foods or beverages offered in Hospitality, the cost of which is covered by the attendees' registration fees.
